Even Siebold Visited This Place! Tatsuyama Ishi, a Miraculous Power Stone with a History of 1,700 Years — Ishi-no-Hoden, Takasago —
Did you know that there is a sacred object that you can touch in Takasago City, Hyogo Prefecture?
There are Three Great Miracles of Japan, and one of them is the Ishi-no-Hoden of Ohshiko Shrine in Takasago City, which, along with the Ama-no-Sakahoko of Kirishima Higashi Shrine in Miyazaki Prefecture and the Yonku-no-Shinkama of Okama Shrine in Miyagi Prefecture, has been famous since the Edo period.
It is also called the “Floating Stone” because it looks like a huge stone floating on the water.
It was quite an undertaking to carve this shape out of the rock face using the technology of the time, and there are many mysteries surrounding its purpose. Today, many people visit it as a place flowing with mystical power. Please check out the main feature to find out more!
And believe it or not, the famous naturalist Philipp Franz von Siebold, who visited Japan from Germany, is said to have visited this place, too.
In this episode of Hyogo Field Pavilion, we visited Matsushita Stone Mason Corporation, a company that, along with the mysterious and impressive Ishi-no-Hoden of Ohshiko Shrine, is working to preserve Tatsuyama Ishi, a type of stone that has been mined here for over 1,700 years, for future generations, and we also visited its quarry.
We filmed in the middle of the intense heat of Japanese summer, but we were able to capture the charm of Takasago in a video that includes power stones and power spots, culminating in a visit to a café in a quaint house in the old part of town…
This video is a great way to experience the charm of Takasago.
We hope that you can feel the power of Tatsuyama Ishi through your screen…
